The lady steps closer, and into a bit more of a seeable zone. She is fairly obviously a nurse from a local pokemon center. "You must have made it out just in time then." She moves to shake both of your hands, "My name is Lilliam Joy. I work at the local pokemon center during the day, but I am one of the volunteer town defense commanders at night. This forest is as peaceful as can be during the day, but when night comes, it attacks and we have to be out here every night in order to keep those vile bugs from overrunning the city. You are free to head into town to get some rest, or stay to help out as long as you would like. Usually its a good idea to have slept during the day before that though as once the attacks begin, they don't stop till dawn."

Hearing what Lilliam had to say, Thompson nodded and smiled a bit before looking to Armo. "I want to help. Please say that you'll help with me. We owe it to the Chu for helping us get out."

Armo looks back with unease. "I would be glad to help, but I am not fighting type, yes? I would prefer helping from... less violent position."

"Unless you yourself have some fighting talents, we keep the trainers in the back. Focus on attacking more vulnerable places in the enemy lines and don't worry too much if you have to call back your pokemon. We have been doing this for years. Since the two of you are new, I'm going to put you about half way tot he side. The middle gets the heaviest attack, and the edges have to worry about bugs getting around them, but you guys will be pretty safe this time, though definitely still a big help." The lady directs you to a spot 20 or 30 meters down the row of people. The group parts for you to form up and everyone around you begins sending out their pokemon. Their are a wide variety of pokemon, though a higher number of fire, rock and flying types than any other.

Thompson smiled a bit. "I have some fighting talents, personally. And as you can see, I have a few friends that could help thin out these bugs."
He took his place along the lines, Pilot and Ace ready to attack the bugs when they come, Thompson was ready too.

Putting his reservations (mostly) to the side, Armo takes his place on the sidelines, deploying his Sandshrew. "This does not sit well in Armo's stomach..."

"Sorry for getting you wrapped up in this, friend. But I want to help that Chu as much as I can. Plus we wanted to get stronger right? Like those trainers in the mountain."
Thompson walked to the front lines along side his pokemon, waiting for the assault to begin.

Any of objections to me kinda just skimming this battle, giving you some highlights and such and then giving you the xp and such for it. The battle would take weeks if we actually play it out. We can do it if you guys want, but I'd rather move onto more interesting things.

For several long minutes nothing happens. You hear muttering from up and down the line that it is much later than usual for an attack to begin. Eventually however someone spots the initial assault. A group of butterfree were flying extremely high up in the sky, apparently planning to sprinkle the whole line with various status effects before the fight even began. Some of the toxins get the part of the line opposite your own, but the bird pokemon of the group manage to drive the butterfree away before the main assault begins. The attack is coordinated to a degree you have never seen in pokemon before. A wave of caterpie with Kakuna and Metapod string shotted on top of them lead the way, absorbing attacks, while layer after layer of weedle follow after, firing waves of poison stings. Everyone with long range attacks tries to break through the line of evolved bug shields. Eventually the line cracks in a few places, and the more melee oriented pokemon on your team sweep into the breaks and start tearing into weedle. At that point the caterpie are close enough that they slip off the shield pokemon and begun assaulting with tackle in a wave. The whole line of people turns into hundreds of mini battles in which everyone is facing off against tons of caterpie, while weedle continue to fire at range. The butterfree continue to rain down toxins from above in key areas, but they also carry as many caterpie as they can on their backs, which they try to drop off behind the front lines and into the ranks of the trainers. This causes a good bit of disruption in various places, and the human line almost breaks in a couple of places, only saved by the quick action of some of the other veterans, and in one case, a strategic use of Sing by Armo. Thompson spends most of the fight up past the front line, laying into weedle after weedle. As the fight continues on, eventually you and all of your pokemon are injured beyond the point where it is safe to continue battling. Still, you stay behind the line, ready to support in case the caterpie manage to break through anywhere. Its at this point that the two of you notice the beedrill, who appear covered in weedle. Unlike the rest of the weedle, which are mostly just laying a covering fire over the whole battlefield, these mobile battlestion weedle focus fire one target at a time, finding key points along the line and laying into single pokemon or trainers. The two of you end up managing to take down one of these weedle carrying beedrill before it is able to focus its fire on the nurse joy, but the weedle who fall out of it manage to take you out in your weakened state. The two of you wake up next to each other in two different beds. The sun is out and it looks to be about noon. It looks like one of the guest rooms in a pokemon center. All in all the battle was a extreme learning experience. You saw many pokemon on both sides die, and even a few humans. During the battle Armo learned that he could not use his captured Kakuna in the fight, as it almost immediately turned upon him as soon as he sent it out. In any event, you both get 15 trainer xp. Each of your pokemon gets 100xp except the Kakuna and everyone involves gets a bit of PTSD.

Armo wakes up with a nasty headache... the heat of battle was pain to his old joints. "Errghh... horrible dream... bugs everywhere..."
He turns to see Thompson, who probably took it worse being on the front lines. "Oh... bugs were no dream."

Waking up slowly, Thompson looked around a bit. It almost hurt to move even that much and he closed his eyes once more. "How do they do that every night?
He then thought of the Raichu and sat up quickly, groaning a little bit. "We should check on that Chu."

At this point, the Nurse from the night before comes in. She has a good number of cuts and bruises but the biggest obvious wound is the fact that she is wearing an eye patch. She greets you, thanks you for your help and then explains that last night was particularly bad. There had not been an attack on that magnitude for years. She had put in a request for more help from the Rangers in the future and an investigation into why the attack was so much worse than usual.

Thompson looked to the Nurse then back to Armo, looking confused. What could have caused something like that. Surely it didn't have anything to do with the Thunderstone they gave the Chu. Or maybe... it was him that drew the bugs in the first place...so the increased power...
