"Travelers," Cecil answered cautiously; just in case this woman was part of the disturbances they had heard about, he didn't want to get on her bad side. "We heard about these tunnels under the mountain, and just had to come see them for ourselves while we were in the area. I've always been a fan of caves, myself. What about you? What are you up to in here? Some kind of digging?"

"Just got back to work actually. I search for and uncover pokemon fossils, but some sort of evil group had control of this cave a few days ago and held me hostage. Somebody defeated them and this young kid released me from the cave area they had me locked up in. After a few days of rest after that experiance, I have just got back to work digging fossils."

Shanon gives Cecil a look, turns her head back toward the woman saying How can we be sure your not part of this evil group? Your taking the fossils yourself?

The woman looks offended that you would suggest that. "You can ask around town if you would like, I have been working here for several years. As for what I do with the fossils I collect, not that it is any of your buisness, I send some to the Pewter City museum and the rest I ship to the lab on Cinnabar Island. I am a graduate student at the Cinnabar Institute of Science."

Well, you can never be too careful with strangers when you hear that bad sorts have been about Shannon says shrugging her shoulders then folding her arms and half turning her head away from the woman.
'Well great', she thinks to herself, 'another stranger I annoyed. Better shut my mouth up and let Cecil talk so I don't mess this up further'.

Cecil might have tried a little more tact, but there was something to be said for speaking bluntly; you got your answers a lot faster. "Please accept our apologies," Cecil said to the woman. "We didn't mean to imply that you yourself were up to anything shady. The truth is, my companion and I are in the business of helping people and Pokemon, and we heard there was trouble in here, so we decided to check it out. I am actually quite happy to hear that someone else beat us to it, however." Cecil paused, thinking. He did have an idea about how he might get on her good side, if his hunch was correct. He still didn't know for sure that she could be trusted, but he could be careful. "If you are a student of fossils, would you be interested in seeing a revived Pokemon? I've been working with this one for quite a while now, and I would be curious to see what someone in your field thinks." Cecil took out Rue's pokeball. In case a fight did break out, he didn't want to show all his cards at once. He released the Lileep from the ball beside him.

The woman seems to forget her anger with the appearance of Lileep. She kneels down and starts examining the pokemon from all angles, taking measurements and looking at it with a magnifying glass. "This is amazing... I had heard of some work being done in Saffron and Cinnabar, but..." After several moments she looks up. "How? Where did you do your work?"

Cecil had been afraid of that question; he wanted to avoid talking about that, especially to someone he just met and wasn't entirely sure he trusted yet.
"It was done in a place I used to work, a long way away from here. I was brought in to raise her, and I've been with her ever since." He really hoped that would answer her question and she'd move onto something else. "Her name is Rue."

"This is truly amazing. Can you give me any information on Rue's eating habits and mating rituals and things like that? Have you or the place you worked for released any papers about her? Could I take some sketches and samples to take back to my college?" The lady seems super excited and interested in anything about the creature, and is quite happy to ask different questions if you are reluctant, or even slow to answer any given question.

During the entire conversation about fossil reanimation Shannon listens incredulously. She knew that Cecil's pokemon must've been somewhat rare due to their special status at the zoo, but to be reanimated fossils? her mind was running in circles. Her outward reaction showed a typical teenage girl who could barely believe what she was seeing; large eyes, speechless, and zoned out.

Cecil didn't want the fact that he was traveling with his stolen Pokemon publicized; while he knew how unlikely it was that anyone would care about tracking him down or anything due to the war, he saw no reason to take chances. He decided part of the truth would be good for avoiding the rest of it. "I do apologize, but before she started traveling with me, she wasn't much more than a lab experiment. I would like to keep her away from anything of that sort from now on; I hope you understand. As long as she doesn't protest, I would be happy to allow you some time to interact with her, as long as I remain present and you promise to think of her as more than just something grown in a lab."

The petrologist purses her lips. "Perhaps it would be better if I ceased observing her at all. I am fairly certain that gaining information that I could not use for a paper or even tell other scientists for fear of them calling me crazy, would drive me mad." She gives the Lileep a longing look then turns back to her wall. "I think you are being selfish Mr. Zookeeper, keeping the wonder of your friend from the rest of the world, but I don't expect I have any ability to do anything about it." She begins to pick at the rock again, her face in what is fairly obviously forced concentration.

Cecil was at a loss; he hadn't intended any harm. Now he had probably just made things worse. He really didn't want anything bad to happen; he was just trying to protect his Pokemon. He told himself he was making the right decision.
"I am really sorry; it's just that she has been through so much already. I didn't mean to insult you or anything. If you'd like, maybe I could stop by your school sometime with her in our travels."

The lady does not say anything for a bit and then turns back to you. She sees like she is upset but trying to control herself a bit. "I'm sure my friends and colleges at CRI would appreciate it." She gives you the location of the lab on Cinnibar. Then she turns back to the rock wall.

Having come back to earth after learning that Cecil's pokemon were once fossils, she responds We will be sure to stop by the lab if we are ever on the island. Sorry for bothering you, we'll leave you alone now so you can work, Shannon says as she gives Balian a head scratch and starts to turn away from the woman.
She felt like her initial thought of her being one of those causing the trouble in the tunnels was wrong, and she was obviously sad not to be able to study the fossil pokemon, but she respected Cecil's decision to keep his friends from becoming experiments again. But this also meant that their first attempt to assist those in trouble ended in nothing. Oh well, guess we should've been here a few days ago when she needed help.
Once they had walked a bit aways from the woman Shannon whispers What exactly is reanimation and did that happen to your pokemon? The two of you sounded like you turned a rock into a pokemon! And where are we gonna go now that the bad guys have already been kicked out of here?
